If names like Orpheus or Spartacus sound familiar to you, then you have heard of at least one famous Thracian in your life. The Thracian tribes were first described by Homer as mighty rulers and great warriors who participated in the Trojan War. Skilled horsemen, masters of light infantry fighting, renowned for their ferocity, the Thracians struck fear into the mightiest of their contemporaries. They had a unique culture and left us an incredibly precious heritage – gold and silver treasures, religious sanctuaries, a number of fantastically preserved burial mounds and tombs with remarkable murals and rock sculptures.
